We believe the created-for-crisis three-layer mask is superior to other designs for several reasons.
One key reason is that the three-layer mask uses a tie system instead of ear loops. Ear loops are often not a good option, because they can be the wrong size and not easily adjusted. Having incorrectly sized loops can cause irritation or sores behind the ears. In addition, having a tie system means that the mask design doesn't depend on elastic; this is good, given the current elastic shortage in the US.
